Upper and lower blepharoplasty
In the case of upper eyelid drooping and / or lower eyelid bags (Blefarocalàsi), blepharoplasty is indicated, which consists of 'removal of excess skin at the level of the upper and lower eyelids, and, where present, the removal of eyelid fat bags that is, small abnormal accumulations of fat herniated out, make it look swollen eyes; points sutures are removed about four days after the operation.
In the case of palpebral bags without much excess skin, surgery may be performed by transconjunctival, namely by removing the fat from the eyelid through the conjunctiva without affecting the skin.
Prior to surgery, it is necessary for the upper lid, draw a careful design to calculate exactly in the skin excess to be removed.
For a few hours after the procedure to be applied over the eyes of sterile gauze soaked in cold saline in order to reduce the swelling and drain small, possible leakage of blood.
Blepharoplasty is a delicate operation, where the plastic surgeon must dose with high precision the skin and fat to be removed, in order to avoid complications such as ectropion (eyelid retraction by excessive removal of skin) or lagophthalmos (permanent opening of the eyelids), hemostasis should be extremely careful, especially in blepharoplasty with removal of the fat bags, to avoid the risk of bleeding and bruising around the eyes.
The upper blepharoplasty under local anesthesia is feasible but for the lower blepharoplasty is the minimum required sedation.
After about ten days the swelling is gone and any surface bruising, and the patient may appear to others without presenting results. The scars are practically invisible.
